Leaving the Rainforest - Boys

The boys were fairly sad to be leaving the rain forest. I think James and I were more ready to leave. The bugs were starting to get to me, and the heat to James. Although we arrived during on a cold day, it started to heat up the next day. And by the time we left, it was definitely what most of us would think of as rainforest hot and humid. James was more than ready to leave it behind. We ended up with a few mosquito bites, but nothing too bad...and much less than I had expected. I don't know if that was because the weather was cold on our first night, or if mom's B12 vitamin trick worked, or if the mosquitos are just not that bad. I think we experienced some kind of odd anomaly as far as the mosquitos go because when we arrived at the resort transfer site in town on our first day a guy walked over and gave us his left over mosquito repellent because "we were gonna need it." So I don't know what happened, but I am glad we didn't get eaten. One more note- if you ever get that chance to visit a rainforest, try to get to a primary forest. Our resort was in the secondary rain forest, so the trees, while big, were not the huge canopy type trees. Apparently in a primary rainforest the tree canopy is so dense that underneath the trees is an open area. Whereas at our site there were a lot of smaller trees and shrubbery, so you could follow trails. Our guide mentioned that in a primary rainforest there are no real trails because it is all open. The closest primary rainforest to where we were was still another 2.5 hours down the river at Tambopata Research centre.
